John GOODWORTH
Clothier.
Three Goodworths (2 Johns and a Thomas) are mentioned in the Poor Law Rate Book in 1833 as paying rates under the Poor Law. Assuming there were no other Goodworth families in Leeds at that time that means that this John Goodworth must have been alive in 1833:
One John Goodworth lived (or had property) at/on "Green Top" and paid 5 shillings on Sep 4
One John Goodworth had property at "South side of Wortley Moor & Wind Mill" and paid six and threepence on Jul 24
Thomas Goodworth had property at "Low Close and Old Field Lane Top" and paid four and eightpence-ha'penny on Aug 18.
1850: Pittsburgh, PA, USA, aged 74, Cloth manufact. (He is listed as from PA but in fact the census enumerator has clearly made a mistake and recorded the country on the line below for everyone below him on the page (page 149), so the correct origin is England. (I don't know if it is possible to work out where they were (all the page has is a dwelling house sequence number and a family sequence number).

"Cloth Manufacturer" of Silver Royd Hill, Wortley, in 1837
"Providence Place, Moor Side, Wortley, 1837
There is also a burial record for a Thomas. I have 08 Feb 1801 written down, which is fishy as it is the same date as Elisabeth's birth. If so, Thomas was almost certainly born early in the marriage, or perhaps even before.
1833 Whites directory mentions T. Goodworth Woollen Manufacturer (coloured) in Upper Wortley
Thomas Goodworth had property at "Low Close and Old Field Lane Top" and paid four and eightpence-ha'penny on Aug 18.
West Yorkshire Land Registry records dating 1837-1839 detail various transactions involving, among others, Benjamin Storey, culminating in Thomas being declared bankrupt 10 Dec 1838.
I cannot find any obvious reference to this Thomas, his wife Sarah, or any of their children after 1839. Anyone have any clues?

Then perhaps (or perhaps this was a different John and/or Elizabeth). The gap seems large. Could they also have had children Thomas and William in this period? This John and Elizabeth are of "Upper Wortley" and John is a clothier, but pretty well everyone in that area was.
